KNEC States That Grade 9 Exam for Select Schools in June 2024

KNEC States That Grade 9 Exam for Select Schools in June 2024. The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) announced on Wednesday, April 24,  that selected schools will hold examinations for Grade 9 students in June 2024. He explained that these exams were part of the preparation process for the Grade 9 assessment.

“In October we will be publishing a syllabus for all students in the High School on how they will be assessed in grade 9,” Njengere said.   Njengere briefed education stakeholders who met to discuss  common interests and chart the path towards implementation of CBC.

The Director announced that the assessment of grade 9 students was informed by the 2012 Working Group, which recommended that  KNEC change its policy.   This should be transformed into group assessment from post-testing to the development of each student's ability through continuous assessment.

Therefore, students will not be able to take the Kenya  Primary and Secondary School Certificate examination.   KNEC has not announced which school will be used to test the first Grade 9 national exam.   After the national exam, 9th grade students will move on to high school in 10th, 11th and 12th grades.

In high school,  students are now free to choose careers from categories such as Arts and Physical Sciences, Social Sciences or STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).

After completing Grade 12, students will now have the right to enter the colleges and universities of their choice.
